A Difficult Lesson

midieval-jailroomI knew that taking Mary through her journey of exploring her gifts wouldn’t be peaches and cream.  No.  It would be tough, sometimes unbearable, not just for her but for me as her maker. But I am determined to make her into a better, well-rounded, powerful vampire.  Afterall, she was created with my blood… the blood of Akasha.  And it was Akasha I feared the most in Mary’s regard. For the culling is soon to be underway and if Mary is to survive, she must be taught properly.

For I took her out and showed her how to awaken her Glamour Gift; bending the will of mortals and creatures to her own.  She channels the power that is naturally within her, through her music.  She did well, some trouble at first but she’s getting better. The Glamour Gift taps into your own individual energy, which can come from whatever feeds it, to project outwardly. For me, I use my love for Pandora, which has always been the source of my greatest power. But I also use the love of my entire family to fuel it. For Mary, it is the love of music that fuels her… the source of her energy and power.  She will need to practice the Glamour Gift more until she perfects it.

The next lesson was tapping into her heightened physicality to listen to the heartbeat of her prey.  Learning not to kill their subjects is very difficult to learn for newborn vampires.  They do not know when to stop.  This is an essential lesson, because there will be times — often in the younger vampires — where you cannot control your urge to fangbang someone.  They will be so alluring to you that you will become more beastial and hunt them down. So you do what we call “sampling”… where you feed but do not kill, then Glamour the memory away.  This satisfies the urge, which can be all consuming at times, without a) killing an innocent or b) breaking your masquerade. To do so, you must able to hear the change in your prey’s heartbeat… there is a subtle change in rhythm that happens to all living things. That’s the line that must not be crossed. I control myself enough to sample only slightly without ever having to go near that line, but Mary as a fairly new vampire will have some trouble with it.  She learns quickly though and was able to pull away just in the nick of time.

The next lesson I knew would be hard. Its the lesson of controlling the thirst.  The best way to do this is to throw a vampire into solitary confinement.  No food, no distractions — only the thirst — to keep you company.  *sighs*  Not something I enjoy teaching, but one that must be taught.   Here we must focus, channeling our thoughts away from the thirst onto something, anything, else.  The thirst often becomes so powerful that the young vampire looses their mind to it.  This is the part that we must avoid at all costs, and to do that, takes practice. So I am putting her in there for a few weeks.  After which, if she’s kept her wits about her, she will have to “sample” a mortal without destroying them, using her heightened physicality and her glamour.

We’ll see if she passes.  If not, its back in the box.
