During this transformation, a dragon can find a human mate and have children with such. The offspring would be half-dragon, half-human, in essence creating a “dragonkin”.

Birth

After around three months, the fetus emerges enclosed in a leathery sac, which quickly hardens into an egg. The egg’s coloration is in keeping with what is normal for the dragon or dragon-kin parent (about the same color range as that type’s scales). It generally takes ten to twelve months for the egg to hatch. The resulting dragonkin will always be of the same dragon type as their dragon or dragonkin parent. In cases where both parents are dragons or dragonkin of different elements, offspring will each be of the same type as one parent or the other (random).

<a underwater through their scales. If any part of them is covered, their water breathing doesn’t work as well. This limitation is more noticeable in mortal form due to clothing.

Fire Dragons

thick red and orange scales

immune to flame

Air Dragons

white and grey Gifts

Intelligence: dragons possess extremely high intelligence

Dragon fire: The fire breathed by a dragon is more a torrent of raw magical energy than it is an actual flame. Therefore, dragon fire can often burn what an ordinary fire could not.

Magical creature: Dragons are a living embodiment of magic, making them particularly well suited to spell casting. Unfortunately, this also makes them a treasure trove of reagents for mages.

Element manipulation: Elemental dragons are able to magically manipulate their particular element. The extent to which they can do this varies and can, as with most magic, be improved with practice.

Travel: Dragons of this type are able to travel between worlds using their innate understanding of the flows of magic.

Influence: A dragon’s strong presence, as well as their magical nature tends to affect the behavior of those around them.

Serpent’s gaze: When looking into a dragon’s eyes, it is extremely hard to look away. This carries over into human form, though not quite as intensely.

Powerful voice: A dragon can learn to channel its magic into its voice to cause a heightened emotional response. This could be used to instill fear in an enemy, rally allies, or lure prey closer.

Earth Magic

Breath attack: In addition to standard dragon fire, the earth dragon can spew forth molten stone, which quickly hardens on its target.

Harden: The dragon becomes immobile and nearly immune to physical damage. Senses are dulled for the duration of this effect. This is most often used during long periods of sleep.

Treasure sense: While most dragons have a keen eye for treasures, earth dragons have a sixth sense for locating gems and precious metals that have not yet been removed from the earth. As such, they spend a good deal of time tunneling below ground to build their hoard.

Water Magic

Breath attack: blue dragon fire that not only burns on and beneath water, but also becomes more powerful in those conditions. Can also unleash a strong torrent of water.

Condensation: able to call together the water in an area, whether it’s in liquid form or in the air, or even from a living thing.

Amorphous form: Water dragons are particularly skilled at the transformation technique that all dragons can use. As such, they have much more freedom to alter the form that they transform into, though their pride prevents them from using it to disguise themselves as another specific person.

Fire Magic

Breath attack: A fire dragon’s breath burns hotter than that of other types.

Ignite: able to cover their bodies in dragon fire while in dragon form

Air Magic

Breath attack: In addition to standard dragon fire, the air dragon can breathe out an extremely strong and damaging gust of wind.

Voice control: can project and amplify their voices to be heard much more loudly. With enough practice, they can learn to make their voice seem to come from another location, or eventually from multiple locations at once.

Maneuvering: can rapidly adjust the direction of their movement, even in a free-fall, with the help of short bursts of wind

AGE

Infant

As infants, dragonkin are already able to change between dragon and mortal form. As a mortal, they appear to be a mostly ordinary infant. As a dragon they start out roughly the size of a small house cat, with the physical appearance of their dragon type.

Toddler

By the time they are toddlers, dragonkin invariably begin to identify themselves more as either dragon or mortal, devoting most of their time to that form. This choice is usually greatly influenced by the environment in which they are being raised. They learn to fly around the same time that they learn to walk, though their flight is similarly limited. During this time they also develop the ability to breathe small amounts of fire, which at this point is just ordinary flame.

Adolescence

Upon reaching puberty, the dragonkin’s magical nature inherited from their dragon forebears begins to emerge more strongly. It is at this point that their other draconic abilities begin to develop. One who has lived primarily in mortal form throughout childhood will generally be less prepared to handle this and will often find these abilities triggering unexpectedly until they learn how to use them properly.

Aging Formula

Early in their lives, dragonkin age twice as fast as humans (4 years worth of aging per real life year). This aging slows nearly to a halt once they (in mortal form) appear to be somewhere in their twenties. Their dragon form will continue to grow for thousands of years. However, those dragonkin who spend their childhood primarily in mortal form will age at a normal human rate (2 years per real life year) until they reach puberty.

LIFESTYLE

As they have spread out to numerous worlds through the ages, dragons have developed a wide range of customs. A couple of things remain fairly constant though. The lure of treasure, whatever form that might take, is strong and ever-present. Attempting to take away anything that they consider to be their treasure is a foolish undertaking at the best of times. No dragon can stand to have its intelligence insulted. They also have grown accustomed to concealing what they are from mortals, though it grates at them to have to conceal their identities, which they take great pride in.

Over the past few years, these dragons and dragonkin have experienced a feeling like they need to go elsewhere. This slowly intensifying feeling is driving them toward Sosaria from all other worlds and as it grows stronger, more and more of their kind heed its siren call.

RULES

Shifting

A dragon can only use a form shift to turn into a human or regeneration, they are able to recover from almost any wound that fails to kill them. Severed limbs grow back much like a lizard’s tail.

<a
