In many cultures, for example in India, it is regarded as a holy, magical gemstone. Its secrets are locked beneath a pearly veil, and with them, our own hidden truths. Only within its reflected light can we begin to understand what it has to teach us. Moonstone is foremost a talisman of the inward journey, taking one deep into the self to retrieve what is missing, the parts of the soul left behind or forgotten, then brought to light. What that is exactly is the purest form of ourselves; in essence our unspoiled selves. Moonstone takes one deep into the self. Often it reveals the missing piece or pieces of the puzzle of one’s life, parts of the soul that have been left behind or forgotten.

The ancient Romans theorized that moonstone, with its unearthly shimmer, was formed from frozen moonlight. This appealing gem variety does shine with a cool lunar light but it is the mineral feldspar, quite terrestrial in origin. This gemstone was very popular once before, about a hundred years ago at the time of Art Nouveau. It adorns a noticeably large number of the jewellery creations of the French master goldsmith René Lalique and his contemporaries, mainly to be found in museums and collections today.

Known as the Traveler’s Stone for the protection it affords, especially at night, and because of its uplifting quality of hope, has long been worn as a talisman of protection against magical energies. Through research and development, those of us with supernatural abilities have been able to harness this power in powder form, mixing it with concrete to build and fortify construction so that no outside magic can eclipse it. This has served us as a magic dampener when we need to suppress the abilities we were damned or gifted with beyond our natural selves. It basically renders all creatures as mortal as newborn babes.

This proved to be very useful for us, especially in the building of confinement units such as jails and other structures. But there is a hefty price that must be paid. In order to build such complex, and quite large, buildings we’ve had to grind quite a bit of the mineral. So in essence just to create a single wall, we must acquire 3.4 metric tons of the raw form of moonstone. If you can’t do the math yourself, that’s almost 7,500 lbs. Up until recently that hasn’t been much of a problem. The side effect was that we were helping countries financially that really needed the money. But as our demand of it grew, fine moonstone has now become quite rare and becoming rarer. While it is still mined in Sri Lanka and Southern India, it is slowly becoming extinct.

As more and more supernatural creatures are well… created… the need for such buildings has doubled. On Earth magic isn’t as prevalent as on Sosaria, but the need is still very much there. Here on this planet, since its such a close relative of Earth, we’ve searched for hecatolite quite a bit and have found nothing. So there must be an alternative… somewhere? If we cannot find hecatolite itself, then perhaps there is a mineral native to Sosaria that gives the similar result.

Research must be done and a search must be initiated!

Hecatolite, more commonly known as moonstone, is a rare form of the mineral Feldspar, a mineral that forms from volcanic magma. It has long been the source of magical power, or rather protection from. This gemstone is surrounded by a good deal of mystique and magic.
