A Knock on the Door

brelynnWiping away a tear, the girl climbed upon her horse and said the magical words meant to transport her from one location to another. She really didn’t care which rune… she just had to get away. As luck would have it, she found herself looking eye to eye with one of the largest dragons she had ever laid eyes on and a smile crossed her face.

“Pandryl!!” she exclaimed as she threw her arms around his neck, lifting herself off of her trusty nightmare. Pandryl, her protector and best friend was always there when she was in need. She could not think of a time he had let her down since her Uncle Mystic had bestowed upon her one of his favorite beasts. And this time, true to fashion, he would not let her down either. Sensing her deep sadness, the dragon tried his best to comfort the girl and it was not long before she drifted off into a slumber under his close eye while murmuring the words “time” under her breath.

She dreamt of happier times, of growing up under the watchful eye of so many aunts and uncles and one could not forget her adoring parents. Her sister and she could do no wrong, and even when it seemed they were in trouble, they knew just how to get out of it. She remembered dancing in the rain for hours on end and the enormous joy she received from taming her first animal. She also remembered the way his eyes locked with hers the moment she gave herself to him fully.

The girl awoke with a smile on her face until she remembered that it was again just a dream. She was no longer a child, her sister had passed, and she was all alone. She looked down to her empty ring finger. She had not meant for things to go as they had, she only wanted time to slow down and think.

Brelynn wiped away the tears staining her cheeks and went about her chores of ensuring her animals’ needs were well met. She made sure to give them all extra feed and paid the trainers more than enough to ensure her animals were well taken care of during her absence. She left Pandryl for last as he would be the hardest good-bye. “I promise I’ll come back soon, I love you” she whispered as she kissed his snout. She then turned and walked away with a determination not even she knew she had.

She had always ran to Earth when things became too much for her to handle. She loved the difference between the two places and how she loved the shopping. It had not been long since her shopping trip with Uncle Armand. She really was loved but now was not the time to be the spoiled little princess she was known to be. Brelynn was going to Earth after all, but this time it was not for shopping. No, this time it was for a much different reason. She needed forgiveness and could not think of a better place other than the cathedral she had dreamt of as a child.

Wearing a plain hooded robe, she showed up on the door and hesitantly knocked on the door. “What if she hates me?” the girl thought before swallowing the lump in her throat. Almost turning to leave, she heard the door swing open and her whole world stood still. Standing before her was possibly the most beautiful woman she had ever laid her eyes on. Dropping to her knees, Brelynn slowly removed the robe from her head, looking into the eyes of her birth mother for the first time.
