Pain of Loss

Snow crunched underfoot, each step slow and measured before advancing further. It had fallen heavily over the past month and a half and without the usual servants tending to the accumulation, it was layered thick upon the steps. A fitting visual for the mood of the man that climbed slowly.

A month a half since she had fled after he failed to arrive. He could not blame her, but the man never faded. It merely grew stronger with each passing day, a driving searing pain that was pushing his already strained mind further against its limitations. Biting back a fresh surge of suffering, he fumbled for the keys in his jacket.

Hands which once were certain in all actions, now trembled as he inserted the key into the lock. Opening it by magic as he usually would have done was something he was fighting these days. Too long had he taken the easy way through life, when had he slowed and enjoyed the little things? Perhaps if he had, he could have seen the fear coiled about his heart as a serpent would be about a hare.

A creak and the door opened. Gusts of air scattered snow about the carpets within, yet he barely noticed. His gaze instead went straight to the ring sitting upon the note on the table, exactly where he had seen it last. Leaving the door open, Va’lis stepped forward into the past.

Where Do Broken Hearts Go

brokenhearted

I stood there, in disbelief.  My father Amroth standing by my side, my mother Esme yelling and screaming at Pandora and Marius. Nu’jelm Palace filled with the echos of loud voices, voices that in that moment drowned out my internal screams of agony. I had been abandoned at the altar. Abandoned by the one man I had opened my heart, my life to.  What now?

Though the Eyes of the Innocent

solderini-franchessi-villa-venice-front

We were here finally,  settling in to the Franchesi Villa in my dear Venice.  Bianca met us and we were a full house. Louis, Mary, Astoria, Merida, Saphira, Antonio, Rose, and me.  Left Sosaria in a moment’s notice.  To be honest, I’ve never feared death… I am actually quite skilled in avoiding it, but things were different now.  My life, my heart revolved around my beautiful little angels and one very frazzled gorgeous little lady who I love more than anything in this world.  The dangers of Sosaria were no place to raise our children,  here we would be safe.  Here we were nobles, treated with the utmost of respect.  Here we were also completely hidden from whispers, from speculations, from the finger-pointing of some.

As Baron of Venice, I was entitled to all the grand luxuries one can imagine.  Certainly befitting our family name.  Merida had become quite accustomed to the lifestyle and bowed her head back when commoners would curtsey or bow to her.  She even proudly wore the Romanus Crest on her royal sash for official functions.  The limelight suited my beautiful queen, she thrived in it.

We would remain here for a while, until we knew exactly what the Draconians wanted.  Merida being of Razele blood worried me, they took an interest in it, in its power.  Us, not so much… they already know all they need to know since we originate from the same line.  They’d want to examine it, test it, turn whoever has it in them into a lab rat.  Its just what they do.  They have no feelings, no care, and a general disdain for anything that isn’t a vampire in some way.  If it were up to them, they’d turn every human.  Every single one.  And now that they know of a world that no only openly knows we exist, but we exist in positions of power… Gov. Va’lis Razele, for example…. they will seek to conquer this land first and use the portal to outnumber Earth’s humanity with their own.

The potential for disaster is so great that when I look at my children I cannot help to think…  will they see adulthood? *sighs*

Stubborn

pandy-in-armor

Its time to train. And I am a no bullshit kinda girl when it comes to training.

Called out to Va’lis, telling him to bring his armor.  Of course when he saw me on Ichabod in full armor, he knew.  It was time. I have to ensure he can fight against us; the Earthen vampires. It important that he learn how to counter the vampiric abilities that we have.  The Draconians have them,  and used them against him, so better be prepared.
